Simple, accessible wellness tips and words of wisdom from our team of instructors.

We are all doing our best to try and live well, each given 24 hours per day, to sleep, work and play. Ideally dedicating 8 hours to sleep, 8 for work and 8 for everything else, seems fairly simple…but we are all guilty of trying to cram everything in, saying yes to all and rushing from one thing to the next. Consumed by our blue screens, reading about new ways to lose weight, the latest diets, should I try CBD or drink Kombucha, in our desperate attempt to stay healthy.
Echoing the words of Edward O Wilson; “We are drowning in information and starved of wisdom” we bring to you, some bite size wellness tips and words of wisdom from our team of instructors. How they start their day, 30 minute wellbeing boosters, their tops tips for living well and what inspires them in life.
Our expert this week is; Kirsty Gallagher, she has been with us from the beginning, in fact she also played a major part in helping our founder bring Equanimity to life. Kirsty has been teaching yoga for over 10 years, her passion is Lunar Living, an online platform that helps to empower and align women to the cycle of the moon. She is an advocate of women’s wellness, an author, speaker and lights up a room, wherever she teaches.
What is the first thing you do each morning? - I get up and meditate for 13 minutes, why 13? Because its my favourite number. Then I move for 5 minutes with whatever I am inspired to do that morning, stretching and waking up my body. Then I oil pull with coconut oil or sesame oil in the winter. Why? It's great for improving your gum health and killing off bacteria, rumored to help whiten your teeth too. Then it's off to teach a private or corporate class.
If you had 30 minutes to improve your wellbeing what would you do? - Move for at least 10 minutes to get into my body, releasing any tension build up, then I would journal for 10 minutes to get my thoughts onto paper, this helps with my creativity and then I would mediate for 13 minutes. Woops over by a few minutes…
Top 3 tips for living well
Start the day with 5 conscious breaths, this helps to boost the body with fresh oxygen, reducing stress and increasing energy.
Make your commute mindful, by reading or listening to something that helps with your self development.
Lots of water throughout the day because your brain needs it.
What inspires you? - The experiences of life, what I learn from the lows and the feelings I have from the highs. People inspire me too, I inherently feel that people are good and we are all just trying our best to navigate our way around life.
A quote that inspired you and that you now live by?
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” -- Mark Twain

You can meditate at any time of the day or night, but research suggests that the ideal time to meditate is first thing in the morning. The benefits of meditation are enhanced when your mind is free and clear before the stresses of the day have crept in.
